A weak bladder can cause things like a loss of bladder control, urinary leakage, and incontinence. Managing the symptoms of a weak bladder is possible and we are going to share with you a few tips that will hopefully help you with your weak bladder!
1. Pelvic Floor Exercises
-
Your pelvic floor is responsible for supporting your bladder and when the pelvic floor isn’t strong enough, that can cause a weak bladder. Doing daily pelvic floor exercises can build strength and reduce your weak bladder symptoms. Do a quick Google search for ideas!
2. Quit Smoking
-
Smoking can affect your body negatively in many ways and can make your weak bladder symptoms worse. When you smoke, it affects your oxygen levels, and less oxygen in your bladder muscles causes them to weaken.
3. Improve Your Diet
-
Try to incorporate bladder-friendly foods into your diet to promote a stronger and healthier bladder. Eating foods like lean proteins, fiber-rich foods, non-citrus fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will help with your overall bladder health.
4. Limit Caffeine and Alcohol Intake
-
Caffeine and alcohol can irritate the bladder. When the bladder is irritated, it can cause muscle spasms to happen and increase the number of times you must go to the bathroom as well as the urgency of when you have to go.
5. Hydration Is Key
-
Staying hydrated and drinking enough water will help improve your bladder health and function. Proper hydration will prevent constipation and prevent straining the bladder and pelvic muscles.
Managing your weak bladder symptoms isn’t always easy but it is possible. Taking care of yourself and doing things that are good for your body will not only help your bladder health but your overall health as well! If your symptoms seem to be getting worse or changing drastically, it is always a good idea to check with your doctor for tips on managing a weak bladder.
